How long does it take to get out of asylum?
The law states that asylum seekers will receive a response to their application within a maximum period of six months. However, in practice this process often takes longer.
What happens if you are denied asylum?
If the Immigration Judge denies your asylum application, you will receive a notice telling you how to appeal the decision. You can usually appeal within 30 days of receiving the denial.

What happens if I have asylum and leave the country?
A person with refugee or asylee status who wishes to travel outside the United States needs a Refugee Travel Document or permit in order to return to the country; otherwise, they will automatically lose their case and the entire process involved.
What happens if I have a work permit and am denied asylum?
The denial of asylum by the asylum office will automatically terminate the work permit in effect on the date asylum was denied.
